FAQ's

How can I care for my candle?

Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each use, and allow the entire surface to melt on the first burn. No wick trimmer? No problem, a nail clipper works perfectly. Keep candles away from drafts and burn them on a heat-resistant surface. Use a snuffer or gently blow on the flame to extinguish the candle. Avoid blowing forcefully to prevent hot wax splatter. Stop burning your candle when 10mm of the wax remains.

Tunnelling in candles can occur when the wax burns down the centre, leaving a tunnel-like hole and not melting the wax near the edges. This can be frustrating because it reduces the overall lifespan of the candle and may lead to uneven burning. Here's how you can fix a tunnelling candle:

  1. Trim the Wick: Before relighting the candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. A longer wick can contribute to uneven burning.
  2. Burn Longer: When you burn the candle, allow it to burn long enough for the entire surface to become liquid. This may take a few hours, especially for larger candles. This will help melt the wax near the edges and prevent further tunneling.
  3. Create a Wax Pool: The first few burns are crucial. Allow the candle to burn until the melted wax pool reaches the edges of the container. This establishes a "memory" for the candle, and subsequent burns will follow the shape of this pool.
  4. Use a Candle Warmer: If tunnelling is severe, you can use a candle warmer to melt the wax around the edges. Place the candle on the warmer until the entire surface is liquid. This may take a couple of hours.
  5. Foil Collar: If tunnelling is significant, you can create a foil collar. Take a piece of aluminium foil and wrap it around the top of the candle, leaving an opening for the flame. This helps retain heat and encourages the wax near the edges to melt.
  6. Even Burn Time: Try to burn the candle for a consistent amount of time each session. Burning for short periods may contribute to tunnelling.
  7. Avoid Drafts: Burning candles in a drafty area can lead to uneven burning. Place the candle away from open windows or fans.
  8. Rotate the Candle: If your candle is in a container, you can gently rotate it while the wax is still warm to help even out the melting.

Remember that preventing tunneling is often more effective than trying to fix it. Consistent burning habits, proper wick trimming, and allowing the candle to establish a full wax pool during the initial burns can help prevent tunneling in the first place.
